maple glazed walnuts

There are zillions of recipes for candied walnuts, many of which I find way too complicated.  This approach, which is adapted from a recipe by Ellie Krieger for Food Network, is super simple.  And the results are so superb, I suggest doubling or even tripling the recipe.  No worries – they’ll disappear, I promise.

Maple Glazed Walnuts

15 minutes

Ingredients

  •  1 cup walnuts, roughly chopped
  •  1/4 cup maple syrup
  •  Dash of salt
  •  Optional: Dash of cinnamon

Directions

Use a spatula to toss the walnuts with the syrup. Allow the syrup to harden over the heat.

In a small, non-stick skillet over medium high heat, toss the walnuts until just beginning to crisp and they emit a fragrant aroma, about 3 minutes.  Pour the syrup over the nuts and sprinkle on the salt and cinnamon, if using.  Continue to toss the walnuts gently for a few minutes, allowing the syrup to caramelize and harden.  Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely.
