Nothing beats homemade croutons – except homemade parmesan croutons. If you’re in the mood, sprinkle on some dry herbs, such as oregano or basil, as the parmesan cheese begins to melt.
- 1/2 French baguette
- 4 ounces butter
- 3-4 ounces grated or shredded parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon dry herbs such as oregano or basil (optional)
Slice the baguette into ¼ inch thick pieces. Butter both sides of the bread and place in a non-stick skillet on medium heat. Lightly brown the bread on both sides. Sprinkle in the parmesan cheese and turn the bread, allowing the cheese to stick to the bread as it melts. Add the dry herbs, if desired. Continue turning the bread until the cheese has melted completely. Remove the croutons from the skillet and allow to cool. Cut or break the parmesan croutons into smaller sizes, if desired.
